Mulder pvt ltd

MULDER INDIA PVT. LTD
Ceramics and Glass
Our visit to Mulder India gave me complete knowledge of the complex process of transerfering of designs onto ceramic and glassware. As we had the opportunity to watch the entire procedure taking place,I retained most the process visually hence gaining a better understanding of the same.
RAK Porcelain has created a benchmark by establishing it’s distribution network over 40 nations; the larger proportion goes to hospitality sector. These product are the finest quality porcelain ware developed in the industry. RAK also manufactures bone china and stone ware products where stone ware is the heaviest of all products. Apart from this RAK is best known for manufacturing bathroom floorings and tiles.
Few of the well known clients that RAK has been manufacturing their products are Mother Earth, Manish Arora, etc. The design for these products are manually done or on computer. For the manual design they have hired artists from Chitrakala Parishad. References are taken either from the clients or for the internet.
.The printing process that takes place on glass and ceramics is divided into 3 stages.Pre-Production,Production & post production. In the first stage, the designs are manually made and then scanned to a computer computerised on sowtwares like photoshop and illustrator. This is where the color separation processThey use the art of Screen printing for putting their design on to their products. After the design is finalised, they take a print of the design on a gateway sheet which is positive (i.e. coloured). Material for the frame where the printing is done is synthetic polyester. First, they apply the photo-synthetic solution on the screen and these expose the design in the screen to get negative. It is exposed for about 12 minutes. The light passes through the screen and the areas which are black in colour in the design get exposed to the light a hollow is created in the film. The rest of the area remains opaque. After it is removed the screen is placed on the decal comania paper on which the design has to be printed on. After this they wash it thoroughly with water to create the negative on the screen and these negatives are used for screen printing. Different screens are used for different colours. After printing gloss powder is applied after which it is fed into a furnace and then poly embossed.

ULM school of design

ULM School of Design
The exhibition at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat gave me an insight into the History of the Ulm School of design (1953-1968).It was indeed a great opportunity for me to read and visually go back in time, to get to know the history of this great institution. The Ulm School of Design is considered as one of the most influential and prestigious design schools after Bauhaus, even today. It was founded in 1953 by Inge Aicher Scholl, Otl Aicher and Max Bill. The main attributes of the Ulm model were new systematic design, inter-disciplinary co ordination and Team Work. It also encouraged creative research and training, combined with all practical work. Anti-fascism, Cultural responsibility, functionalism, rationality and practical design were few of the elementary aspects the school imparted to their students. The Ulm School will always have a special place etched in Art history, as one of the pioneers in taking art to its professional heights, both academically and by their standard of knowledge imparted. The art world still holds the three founders of the ULM SCHOOL OF DESIGN in high esteem and they are revered for their foresight and vision to date.

casting moulds

aluminium casting -process

Gravitech –Industrial visit
Aluminium Casting
The process of casting happens at a very high temperature. Aluminium is not in pure form will melting it. Ingots(blocks) are put in the furnace and melt at 750degrees .The furnace is kept hot or blown hot air with blowers.(Slag) Impurities are separated from ingot by adding blocks of Tib .In order to obtain pure form of aluminium. The impurities are kept aside. At the above specified temperature molten liquid is taken and poured into the cast iron mould at one go (which makes it flow evenly and set into desired form/cast).The mould made of cast iron is of two parts when joined you get provision to pour the hot molten liquid. They go through runners to get dispersed evenly into the desired shape of the mould. Within few seconds mould is taken apart and you get the desired aluminium casts. From one mould they produce desired number of casts as per the order placed by the client. The mould is of high precision /accurate measurement. The cast iron mould costs 2 lakh (for high precision/ accuracy). This way they produce enormous number of casts for tractor/machine parts.
Once it is out of the mould the runners are cut off and fined manually. They also use band saw for cutting .The cut off runners are melted and reused for further casting. This way you find any wastage in the process.
